Foundation Overview

The Emergency Relief and Legal Defense Fund of the Virginia State Police Association dba Support Virginia Troopers Foundation is a non-governmental, private non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation and is a charity of the Virginia State Police Association.

Foundation Background

2017-2020 Charatible giving

The Support Virginia Troopers Foundation was formed in January, 1987 and has been tax exempt since March, 1987. Through its capable and responsible leadership, the Foundation has served its members competently maintaining low administrative costs and is fiscally sound.

Foundation Purposes

Emergency Relief

To support the Virginia police community in times of need or hardship by providing emergency relief.

Legal Defense

We support and defend the Virginia State Police who have devoted their lives to upholding the Constitution and serving the Commonwealth and its citizens while enforcing its laws.

Awareness

To raise awareness of law-enforcement officers who died in the line of duty.

Youth Development

To support principles of good government and citizenship and seek to foster understanding between communities through police sponsored youth-centered programs, including educational scholarships, designed to combat community deterioration and delinquency through the promotion of positive police-community relations.

Promote Standards

To promote high ethical standards in the police profession and provide educational scholarships to promote law enforcement professional development.

Community Relations

To provide a forum for the open discussion of matters concerning police-community relations in order to lessen community tensions with police.

Board Composition

The members of the Support Virginia Troopers Foundation board are chosen for their leadership abilities, their connection to the VSPA, and their dedication and passion for serving their local communities. Learn more about them on our Meet the Board page.

One director who is a member of the Virginia State Police Association and is either a past President of the Virginia State Police Association or past or present Board member of the Virginia State Police Association.
One director who is an active, inactive, lifetime, or disability life member of the Virginia State Police Association.

Three directors whose connection and past service to the community evidences a passion for the missions of the Charity, and who has a willingness to serve in order to advance the Charity.
